Frequently Asked Questions about Log Book servicing

To help you understand Log Book servicing and learn more about A-One Mechanics in Alice Springs, please read the questions and answers below:

What is a Log Book Service?

A log book service is a proactive approach to car maintenance where regular inspections and small fixes can keep your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently. It can also prevent small problems turning into major damage and issues which could be costly to repair.

Why do I need a log book service?

Log book servicing is the minimum servicing your manufacturer requires in order for you to maintain your car's warranty. You're required to complete a log book service for your car at specified intervals during your warranty period, such as every six months.

What happens if I miss a Service?

The single biggest risk of skipping a service is a breakdown of oil or the sludging of oil, both of which will destroy an engine. If you've missed a car service, you'll run the risk of a totalled car because you haven't changed the oil regularly

Will I lose my New Car Warranty if I don't go back to the dealer?

No.  There is no requirement under the Australian Consumer Law for a vehicle to be serviced by an authorized dealer in order for the consumer guarantees and manufacturer’s warranty to apply, provided the service is accordance with the specified requirements by a qualified mechanic or service centre. A-One Mechanics is fully qualified to service new vehicles. We have more information on this for you in our article. Please click here.

I have lost my Log Book, do I need it?

Yes, a logbook helps to keep track of the services on your car so bring it with you each time. If you have lost yours, there are plenty of replacement books you can buy.

Do you provide reports for the work you have done? or a report of what's wrong with my car?

All our reports are attached to your invoice. This includes servicing information, identification of issues or repairs required and these are prioritised for your convenience.

How long will the service take?

Services generally take between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Upon booking, once we have your vehicles details, we can confirm an approximate time.

How much will my service cost?

Servicing costs depend on your vehicle, which service it is due and exactly what needs to be changed. Things like brakes pads or wheel alignments are only done when required.

How can I pay for my Service?

We prefer EFTPOS or cash as payment for work completed on your car.

When are you Open?

A-One Mechanics in Alice Springs is conveniently open 8am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 7am to 4pm on Fridays. Closed on weekends.

Can I drop off my car after hours?

We have a secure key drop service and vehicles can be dropped off from early mornings. Please arrange this with us when you book.

Is there a secure key drop off box after hours?

Yes we do have a secure key drop off box. Please speak to us about this when you book in your vehicle to our workshop.

Can I collect my car after hours?

Yes, by prior arrangement.

Can you drop me home when I deliver my car for servicing or repair?

Yes, we can drop you home or work within our neighbourhood. Please speak to one of our friendly staff about this when you make a booking.

What happens if something is not right after my car service?

We take great pride in our work, but if something doesn't seem quite right then bring your vehicle back to us and one of our technicians will inspect the issue. You always have the added assurance of our REPCO Nationwide Warranty if you find yourself out of town.

Can my car be serviced at the same time it is repaired?

We definitely can include a service when we repair your car. Be sure to book this in at the same time as your repair so we allocate more time for your job.

How do I book in a Service?

We always prefer to speak to you personally either by phone or in person, however, you can also submit an online booking enquiry and one of our staff will call you back to discuss your needs.

How often should I really service my car?

6 monthly, yearly or every 10,000kms.

I don't drive much, do I still need a service?

Yes, if you do not use your car often you still need it serviced yearly. Regular inspections of your vehicle will keep you driving safely on the road.

Can you fix other things while my car is being serviced?

We sure can. Depending on the issue it can be done same day but if more serious we may need to keep it overnight. Rest assured we will contact you if the situation changes.

What type of oils and parts do you use?

We use only the best Penrite Oils and Ryco filters

Do you check my brakes during a service?

Brake inspections happen with every service. This is how we monitor the brake wear and can advised when brake pads need to be replaced.
